TECHNICAL NOTE
PRELIMINARY REMARK AND NOTICE
BEFORE VIEWING THE PAINTINGS

The images below are presented for informational and documentary purposes.

Nothing can replace the interaction between the viewer’s eye and the artwork placed before it, with or without appropriate lighting, at different distances, whether viewed up close or from afar.

The exact colour of the painting and the impression of material or thickness cannot therefore be guaranteed through these images.

Some images appear relatively faithful to the original, while others are less so. These observations must nevertheless be qualified, as depending on external light conditions or the quality of lighting, the paintings may vary in tone.

THE SIXTIES FANTASIES PRODUCTION
(2023–2026)

The SIXTIES FANTASIES production was completed in January 2026. It consists of sixty paintings executed in metallic colours (gold, silver, copper), divided into five thematic series of twelve works, entitled:

  • PASSION SACHS

  • WEDDING IN LAS VEGAS

  • INITIALS BB

  • HIT PARADE SIXTIES

  • GAME OVER

Each of the five series is constructed around the relationships, love affairs and intersecting trajectories of several emblematic figures of the Sixties, whose image and influence continue to shape the contemporary imagination.

Among these figures are notably Serge Gainsbourg, Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin and Gunter Sachs, whose portraits, paintings and photographs are regularly presented at art fairs and in the collections of major hotels around the world.

The paintings of the SIXTIES FANTASIES production combine these cultural and historical references with an innovative visual vocabulary characteristic of the contemporary work of Jean-Claude Bossel, in which dots, holes, colours and rhythmic structures contribute to the integration of encrypted messages within the very surface of the painting.

An extension of this production is currently being developed in the studio. It will include a large triptych accompanied by sixty mini-diptychs.

The whole is expected to be completed in autumn 2026.

THREE PAINTINGS
FROM THE
PASSION SACHS SERIES

The corners of the paintings in the PASSION SACHS series feature small hollow or solid dots, either white or black depending on the painting.

These graphical symbols visually represent the digits 0 and 1 of the binary code and thus make it possible to encrypt messages using the ® CODE BACH process.

These messages refer to the romantic relationship between Brigitte Bardot and Gunter Sachs in the late 1960s, as well as to the film Le Mépris by Jean-Luc Godard, with Brigitte Bardot in the leading female role.

Our selection presents three paintings of identical dimensions, one in each of the three fundamental colours of this production: gold, silver and copper.

THREE PAINTINGS
FROM THE
WEDDING IN LAS VEGAS SERIES

The lateral edges as well as the lower part of each painting in the WEDDING IN LAS VEGAS series also feature small hollow or solid dots corresponding to encrypted messages using the ® CODE BACH process.

These messages are linked to the specific context of the marriage of Gunter Sachs and Brigitte Bardot in Las Vegas on July 14, 1966.

Our selection once again presents three paintings of identical dimensions, one in each of the three fundamental colours of this production: gold, silver and copper.

TWO PAINTINGS
FROM THE
INITIALS BB SERIES

On each of the paintings in the INITIALS BB series, a multitude of letter B forms are engraved, creating the initials BB of Brigitte Bardot, sometimes upright, sometimes inverted, sometimes positioned with the base at the bottom, sometimes with the base at the top.

These four positions, together with the double letter BB, make it possible to encrypt messages that are directly linked to the lyrics of the song Initials B.B., composed by Serge Gainsbourg shortly after his separation from the actress in 1968.

Our selection presents two paintings from this series, of identical format and in the same metallic colour, gold, with either white or black dots depending on the painting.

TWO PAINTINGS
FROM THE
HIT PARADE SIXTIES SERIES

At the centre of each painting in the HIT PARADE SIXTIES series, one finds a small-scale model of a Solex moped, a symbol of the changing social norms and youth emancipation of the Sixties, notably embodied in memorable clips featuring Brigitte Bardot.

In the four corners of the paintings, fragments of encrypted messages appear, continuing from one painting to the next throughout the series of twelve works.

These messages refer to the arrival of Jane Birkin in the life of Serge Gainsbourg, following his separation from Brigitte Bardot.

Our selection presents two paintings from this series, of identical format and in the same metallic colour, silver, with either white or black dots depending on the painting.

TWO PAINTINGS
FROM THE
GAME OVER SERIES

The paintings in the GAME OVER series contain encrypted messages that notably refer to the song Le Poinçonneur des Lilas by Serge Gainsbourg (“Des p’tits trous, des p’tits trous, encore des p’tits trous!”).

Graphically, the symbols corresponding to the digits 0 and 1 of the binary system are visible in the form of holes along the white or black diagonals in the corners of the painting, or in series of incisions aligned in the corners of the canvas.

Our selection presents two paintings from this series, of identical format and in the same metallic colour, copper, with either white or black incisions depending on the painting.
